How it Works

Adaptive alpine ski lessons take place Monday-Saturday at Alta, Brighton, Powder Mountain and Sundance Resort from January-April. Private, semi-private and group lessons are available and we have a fleet of equipment options to suit any level of ability and skiing experience.

  • When you call or email to inquire about your first lesson, we help answer any questions you have and work to find a date, time and location that will best accommodate your schedule. Lessons fill up fast so book early!

First time skiers using adaptive ski equipment should expect a fitting consultation prior to their first ski lesson (over the phone or in-person). We take the skier goals, prior experience, injury/disability/disorder, strength, range of motion etc. into account when evaluating the best-suited equipment.

Prior to your first on-hill experience we will send you a confirmation text or email with the meeting location/time and any other pertinent information. Morning lessons start at 9am and 1pm for afternoon lessons.

Upon meeting your instructor(s), they will help with personal gear and will formulate a plan for the lesson with you. Your instructor(s) will prioritize your pace and accommodate water/bathroom/warm-up, pressure-release breaks as needed. Each lesson is allotted 3 hours; people may utilize all 3 hours on snow, take breaks as needed or end early if desired.

  • It gets cold out there! Most people are more comfortable wearing their own gear if they have it. Make sure there are no big zippers, buckles or studs in the back pockets on your snow pants or other areas prone to skin sensitivity. We have extra snow boots, helmets, goggles, gloves/mittens, jackets and snow pants available with prior request. We also have some electronically heated clothing and accessories.

  • TRAILS does not offer transportation to or from the mountain. Oftentimes a two-wheel-drive car will be sufficient, however during recent or active snow fall a four-wheel-drive with M/S rated tires or a two-wheel-drive car with chains is required by the Utah Department of Transportation. Check chain restrictions on the UDOT website or App.

  • The mountains are the winter oasis for many Utahns and it shows with weekend and/or powder day traffic. Give extra time to arrive, especially on weekends, holidays and powder days.

  • Occasionally, we need to reschedule lessons due to severe winter weather. When temperatures drop below a safe level or if the snow piles up to prevent safe travel, we may need to reschedule a lesson.

  • We do our best to accommodate everyone's skiing desires. We typically will not schedule more than three lessons at a time for one person. Although we occasionally can accommodate full-day lessons, half-day lessons make up the majority of available opportunities. We ask that all never-ever or first time TRAILS adaptive alpine skiers start with a half day lesson.

 Alpine Skiing Equipment

TRAILS provides participants with an extensive variety of customized skiing technology, including the TetraSki, the world’s only independent alpine ski for complex disabilities.
