About

The TRAILS watersports program takes place at East Canyon Reservoir several days a week from June through August. TRAILS watersports include sailing, kayaking, sit-down/stand-up paddle boarding and swimming. Participants can choose to come for an hour or all day depending on how many activities you’d like to try.

Our experienced TRAILS staff and University of Utah Health Rehabilitation Services ensure your day on the water is safe and fun.

Activity Options

TRAILS operates with an armada of watercraft and accessories to fit the individual needs of all participants and companions, such as family, friends or caregivers. Our watercraft include single and tandem kayaks, sit-down and stand-up paddle boards, and trimaran and catamaran sailboats.

Innovation

TRAILS utilizes the Portable Accessible Docking System (PADS) and the TetraCraft - both designed and built through a collaborative research and development partnership at the University of Utah. PADS provides a smooth entry into the water whether it's from standing or a power chair. The TetraCraft can be sailed using a sip-and-puff or a joystick tetra control interface.

Safety

Participants should plan to bring clothing appropriate for the day’s weather, wear plenty of sunscreen and bring extra water for when not in the reservoir. Coast Guard approved PFDs are required and provided for all people participating in water sports when on or near the water.

 Watersports Equipment

Our fleet of tandem kayaks, solo kayaks and paddle boards are fully outfitted with a seating system, outriggers and paddle adaptations to accommodate individuals with a variety of complex physical disabilities.
